Mother Mary St. Camilla (2025)

Mother Mary Saint Camilla teaches lessons at the Villa
where the Sisters live their life of prayer and service, no man’s wife
but Jesus.
Mother takes the older kids who know their scales except I did not.
Couldn’t read and only played by ear the sounds my sister made.
I listened.

Well, I was taller in that Fall so Sister took me after all
though Kath learned better hand technique, her teacher had a cruel streak
and a ruler… a ruler..

But me and Mother played duets, all kinds of games, and don’t you bet
I loved piano lessons then. And I would do it all again.
Although I’ll never have the skill, I’ll keep trying and I will
